A BILL FOR AN ACT
RELATING TO THE HAWAIIAN HOMES COMMISSION ACT, 1920, AS AMENDED.
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF HAWAII:
SECTION 1. The Hawaiian Homes Commission Act, 1920, as amended, is amended
by adding a new section to be appropriately designated and to read as follows:"§ Business relationships. Notwithstanding any law to the contrary, the department either alone or together with any other governmental agency may enter into business relationships as the commission deems necessary or appropriate, including but not limited to:
(1) Creating nonprofit corporations to be controlled wholly by the department or jointly with others;
(2) Establishing, subscribing to, and owning stock in business corporations individually or jointly with others; or
(3) Entering into partnerships and other joint venture arrangements or participating in alliances or other cooperative arrangements with any public or private
provided that any corporation, venture, or relationship entered into under this section furthers the purposes of the Act; and provided further that this section shall not be construed to authorize the department to abrogate any responsibility or obligation under the Act."
SECTION 2. New statutory material is underscored.
SECTION 3. This Act shall take effect upon its approval.
