A BILL FOR AN ACT
making an appropriation for Na Keiki Law center.
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF HAWAII:
SECTION 1. The Volunteer Legal Services of Hawaii's Na Keiki Law Center exclusively focuses on the legal needs and rights of children by providing guidance and legal services to children and their families in need. The center also provides legal education and support to professionals working with children, including teachers, social workers, foster parents and others. The center offers legal representation for children who are at risk of being or have been abused or neglected, legal support for children who are witnesses of domestic violence or other crimes, and assistance for children who are at risk of being or are homeless. All of these services allow the center to fulfill its main purpose of protecting children.
SECTION 2. There is appropriated out of the general revenues of the State of Hawaii the sum of $ , or so much thereof as may be necessary for fiscal year 2006-2007, for human services to fund legal services to children.
SECTION 3. This Act shall take effect on July 1, 2006.
