THE SENATE

S.B. NO.

3229

TWENTY-THIRD LEGISLATURE, 2006

S.D. 2

STATE OF HAWAII

H.D. 1

A BILL FOR AN ACT

making an appropriation for chore service programs.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF HAWAII:

SECTION 1. The legislature finds that our elderly and disabled populations need assistance with household chores. However, many residents do not have friends or family to assist them with these routine tasks. Chore services programs enable these residents to remain in their homes after they can no longer perform essential housekeeping and related activities, thereby avoiding premature and costly institutionalization.

The purpose of this Act is to make an appropriation for chore services programs.

SECTION 2. There is appropriated out of the general revenues of the State of Hawaii the sum of $          or so much thereof as may be necessary for fiscal year 2006-2007 for the purpose of supporting and expanding the chore services program to provide high quality elder care and services to Hawaii's elderly and disabled populations.

The sum appropriated shall be expended by the department of human services for the purposes of this Act.

SECTION 3. This Act shall take effect on July 1, 2022.
