A BILL FOR AN ACT

 

relating to park ACQUISITIONS.

 

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF HAWAII:

SECTION 1. The purpose of this Act is to appropriate funds to purchase Waiehu beach park which consists of 1.6 acres of beachfront property located on the island of Maui. The park has been used for many years by beachgoers and was recently offered to the county by its owner, Wailuku Agribusiness, for $750,000.

SECTION 2. There is appropriated out of the general revenues of the State of Hawaii the sum of $ , or so much thereof as may be necessary for fiscal year 2006-2007, for the department of land and natural resources to purchase the 1.6-acre Waiehu beach park located on the island of Maui from Wailuku Agribusiness, and once the beach park land is purchased, it shall not be used for any other purpose.

SECTION 3. The sum appropriated shall be expended by the department of land and natural resources for the purposes of this Act.

SECTION 4. This Act shall take effect on July 1, 2006.
