A BILL FOR AN ACT
relating to health insurance.
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF HAWAII:
SECTION 1. The employer-union health benefits trust fund shall study the cost and other impacts of providing health insurance to persons hired by the State as emergency and temporary hires and part-time employees who work less than twenty hours a week who would otherwise not have health insurance coverage.
The report shall include but not be limited to:
(1) An estimate of the total number of persons hired by the State as emergency and temporary hires and part-time employees who work less than twenty hours a week who would otherwise not have health insurance coverage;
(2) An estimate of the number of persons hired by the State as emergency and temporary hires and part-time employees who work less than twenty hours a week who would otherwise not have health insurance coverage that would be eligible for health insurance coverage if the employer-union health benefits trust fund provided it; and
(3) The estimated costs of providing health insurance coverage to these hires and employees, including estimates broken down on a shared cost basis.
SECTION 2. The employer-union health benefits trust fund shall submit the report required under section 1 of this Act and any proposed legislation to the legislature not later than twenty days prior to the convening of the regular session of 2007.
SECTION 3. This Act shall take effect upon its approval.
