THE SENATE

S.B. NO.

2833

TWENTY-THIRD LEGISLATURE, 2006

STATE OF HAWAII

A BILL FOR AN ACT

making an emergency appropriation to the department of education for electricity usage.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF HAWAII:

SECTION 1. This Act is recommended by the governor for immediate passage in accordance with article VII, section 9, of the Constitution of the State of Hawaii.

SECTION 2. Increasing usage and cost of electricity has created a critical funding emergency for fiscal year 2005-2006. The department of education will not have sufficient funds to pay for electricity with the current appropriation amount. An emergency appropriation is needed to fund electricity usage for fiscal year 2005-2006.

The purpose of this Act is to appropriate funds to pay for the cost of the department of education's electricity usage.

SECTION 3. There is appropriated out of the general revenues of the State of Hawaii the sum of $6,721,181, or so much thereof as may be necessary for fiscal year 2005-2006, for the department of education to pay for electricity usage.

The sum appropriated shall be expended by the department of education for the purposes of this Act.
