A BILL FOR AN ACT
making an appropriation to provide lifeguard services at the makena state park on maui.
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF HAWAII:
SECTION 1. Oneloa or "big" beach at the Makena state park is known to be one of the best beaches in the State. The long and wide sand beach, deep blue waters, and the vista of Kahoolawe across the channel all attract thousands of visitors daily. However, as beautiful as the beach and ocean can be, it is also one of the more dangerous beaches in the State. A number of lives have been lost there, and numerous unsuspecting visitors have been injured in the surf.
The purpose of this Act is to make an appropriation for the provision of lifeguard services at the Makena state park.
SECTION 2. There is appropriated out of the general revenues of the State of Hawaii the sum of $427,682, or so much thereof as may be necessary for fiscal year 2006-2007, for the provision of lifeguard services at the Makena state park on Maui.
SECTION 3. The sum appropriated shall be expended by the department of land and natural resources for the purposes of this Act.
SECTION 4. This Act shall take effect on July 1, 2006.
