A BILL FOR AN ACT

 

RELATING TO VETERANS' SERVICES.

 

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF HAWAII:

SECTION 1. Section 363-3.5, Hawaii Revised Statutes, is amended by amending subsection (a) to read as follows:

"(a) There shall be a policy advisory board on veterans' services[.] within the office of veterans' services. The board shall consist of [seven] eight members, which shall not include the four ex-officio members. The eight members shall be appointed by the governor [as provided in] pursuant to section 26-34. [Five] Six members shall be veterans, and there shall be at least: one member residing in each of the counties [except] of Maui and Kauai; two members residing in the county of Hawaii, provided that one member shall reside in east Hawaii and the other member shall reside in west Hawaii; and four members residing in the city and county of Honolulu. No member shall be appointed to represent Kalawao county. [The] In addition, the director of health, the director of human services, the director of labor and industrial relations, and the adjutant general shall serve as ex-officio members. For purposes of determining whether a quorum is present, only the presence of the regular board members shall be considered. The chairperson of the board shall be elected by the majority of the board. The members shall serve without compensation but shall be allowed their actual and necessary expenses incurred in the performance of their duties."

SECTION 2. Statutory material to be repealed is bracketed and stricken. New statutory material is underscored.

SECTION 3. This Act shall take effect upon its approval.
