A BILL FOR AN ACT

 

RELATING TO VETERANS' SERVICES.

 

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF HAWAII:

SECTION 1. Section 363-2, Hawaii Revised Statutes, is amended by amending subsection (b) to read as follows:

"(b) The head of the office shall be known as the director of the office of veterans' services. The director shall be nominated and appointed by the governor without regard to chapters 76 and 89. Effective July 1, [2005,] 2006, the director shall be paid a salary set by the appointing authority that shall not exceed [sixty-nine] seventy-four per cent of the salary of the director of human resources development. The director shall be included in any benefit program generally applicable to the officers and employees of the State."

SECTION 2. There is appropriated out of the general revenues of the State of Hawaii the sum of $5,949, or so much thereof as may be necessary, for fiscal year 2006-2007 for the purpose of funding the salary increase established by this Act. The sum appropriated shall be expended by the department of defense for the purpose of this Act.

SECTION 3. Statutory material to be repealed is bracketed and stricken. New statutory material is underscored.

SECTION 4. This Act shall take effect on July 1, 2006.
