A BILL FOR AN ACT

 

relating to hotels.

 

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF HAWAII:

SECTION 1. Chapter 486K, Hawaii Revised Statutes, is amended by adding a new section to be appropriately designated and to read as follows:

"§486K-   Hotelkeeper preventive safety measures; installation. (a) No later than July 1, 2007, all hotelkeepers shall install and reasonably maintain, in hotel guest bathrooms, safety devices, such as slip-resistant surfacing in baths and showers, bathmats, handholds, or grab bars.

(b) The department of health shall adopt rules as may be necessary pursuant to chapter 91 to implement this section.

(c) Violation of subsection (a) shall be subject to a fine of $           per day per hotel guest bathroom that is not in compliance with this section."

SECTION 2. New statutory material is underscored.

SECTION 3. This Act shall take effect upon its approval.
