A BILL FOR AN ACT
making an appropriation for stipends for assistant athletic DIRECTORS and coaches employed by the department of education.
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF HAWAII:
SECTION 1. The legislature finds that funds were appropriated by Act 315, Session Laws of Hawaii 2001, to increase, using the compensation paid in the 2000-2001 school year, the base stipend paid to coaches of students participating in department of education athletic activities for fiscal year 2001-2002 and fiscal year 2002-2003. However, funds were not appropriated to fund further increases in the stipends for fiscal years 2003-2004 or fiscal year 2004-2005 that were required by Act 315. In addition, pay increases for assistant athletic directors and coaches based on the current collective bargaining agreement for teachers were not funded for fiscal year 2005-2006 or fiscal year 2006-2007.
The purpose of this Act is to provide funding for pay increases for assistant athletic directors and coaches required by Act 315 and by the current teachers' collective bargaining agreement.
SECTION 2. There is appropriated out of the general revenues of the State of Hawaii the sum of $4,200,000, or so much thereof as may be necessary for fiscal year 2006-2007, to fund the increase in assistant athletic director and coach's pay required by Act 315, Session Laws of Hawaii 2001, and by the collective bargained agreement negotiated by unit (5) and in force for fiscal year 2005-2006 and fiscal year 2006-2007.
The sum appropriated shall be expended by the department of education for the purposes of this Act.
SECTION 3. This Act shall take effect on July 1, 2006.
