A BILL FOR AN ACT

 

RELATING TO Military Affairs.

 

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF HAWAII:

SECTION 1. Family members, friends, and co-workers in the Hawaii national guard that were activated to federal active duty and deployed to Iraq have been returning home and will be demobilized just before April 2006. Plans are underway for a welcome home celebration here on Oahu.

The purpose of this Act is to make an appropriation for a grant to the United Service Organizations for welcome home celebrations for members of the Hawaii national guard in the counties of Hawaii, Maui, and Kauai.

SECTION 2. There is appropriated out of the general revenues of the State of Hawaii the sum of $35,000, or so much thereof as may be necessary for fiscal year 2006-2007, as a grant pursuant to chapter 42F, Hawaii Revised Statutes, to the United Service Organizations to assist with their planned welcome home celebrations for returning members of the Hawaii national guard in the counties of Hawaii, Maui, and Kauai.

SECTION 3. The sum appropriated shall be expended by the

department of defense for the purposes of this Act.

SECTION 4. This Act shall take effect on July 1, 2006.
