TWENTY-THIRD LEGISLATURE, 2006

S.D. 1

STATE OF HAWAII

A BILL FOR AN ACT

MAKING AN APPROPRIATION FOR ENHANCEMENT OF IMAGING EQUIPMENT FOR WAHIAWA GENERAL HOSPITAL.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF HAWAII:

SECTION 1. The Wahiawa Hospital Association was founded in 1944 in response to the healthcare needs of the community following the attack on Pearl Harbor. Several years later, Wahiawa General Hospital, a nonprofit community hospital was established to meet the growing needs of Central Oahu, and still serves the surrounding communities in Central Oahu and the North Shore. The hospital delivers the best possible care to every patient. As a community hospital, Wahiawa General Hospital offers progressive skilled services, individualized care, and state-of-the-art technology to care for patients and their families.

Wahiawa General Hospital intends to add brand new state-of-the-art arthroscopy and endoscopy equipment to enhance treatment in these areas. Some of the planned arthroscopic additions include state-of-the-art cameras, monitors, fixing rotators that may prevent some patients from having to undergo major surgery, and new types of shavers. The brand new endoscopy videoscopes will allow not only the physician but also their assistants to monitor what is occurring during a procedure. This will allow the assistant to better aid the attending physician so that the procedure can go smoothly while keeping the patient comfortable. The videoscopes also have the built-in capacity to print pictures for the patients after the procedure.

The purpose of this Act is to make a grant to Wahiawa General Hospital to enhance its imaging equipment.

SECTION 2. There is appropriated out of the general revenues of the State of Hawaii the sum of $2,200,000, or so much thereof as may be necessary for fiscal year 2006-2007, as a grant for enhancement of imaging equipment, installation, infrastructure, and service at Wahiawa General Hospital.

SECTION 3. The sum appropriated shall be expended by the department of health for the purposes of this Act.

SECTION 4. This Act shall take effect on July 1, 2006.
