A BILL FOR AN ACT

 

relating to librarians.

 

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF HAWAII:

SECTION 1. Any state librarian employed by the Hawaii state public library system who voluntarily transfers to a library branch that is understaffed because of its location (as determined by the state librarian) shall receive a one-time salary bonus equal to five per cent of the librarian's annual salary under the following conditions:

(1) The librarian is in good standing with the state public library system;

(2) The librarian agrees to remain at the new library branch for at least five years;

(3) The transfer will not cause staffing problems at the library branch the librarian departed from; and

(4) The transfer is approved by the state librarian.

SECTION 2. There is appropriated out of the general revenues of the State of Hawaii the sum of $          , or so much thereof as may be necessary for fiscal year 2005-2006, to be expended by the department of education for the purposes of this Act.

SECTION 3. This Act shall take effect on July 1, 2005.
