Provides civil service benefits in the executive branch civil service system for those employees who are members of the DOE civil service system.

A BILL FOR AN ACT

SECTION 1. The purpose of this Act is to provide civil service benefits in the executive branch civil service system for those employees who are members of the department of education civil service system as established pursuant to chapter 76, Hawaii Revised Statutes.

SECTION 2. Chapter 76, Hawaii Revised Statutes, is amended by adding a new section to be appropriately designated and to read as follows:

"§76-   Civil service benefits for civil service employees of the department of education. Personnel of the department of education as of July 1, 2005, and thereafter, shall have the benefits relating to transfer, reduction in force, medical placement, and seniority as members of the executive civil service system or as provided in collective bargaining agreements. Membership in a separate department of education personnel system shall not alter the benefits of membership in the executive civil service system."

SECTION 3. New statutory material is underscored.

SECTION 4. This Act shall take effect on July 1, 2005.
