HOUSE RESOLUTION

 

recognizing and honoring the cast and crew of abc television's drama series, "lost" on its recent successes in winning numerous entertainment awards.

 

WHEREAS, the incomparable beauty and spirit of the Hawaiian Islands and its people can be projected to the world through the talented work of creative media; and

WHEREAS, by choosing to film the weekly series in Hawaii, ABC Television's drama series "LOST," has cast the island of Oahu and its scenery in a role that is valuable to the development of the series' dramatic story line; and

WHEREAS, the creators and producers of "LOST," including Executive Producers J. J. Abrams, Damon Lindelof, Bryan Burk, Carlton Cuse, Jack Bender; Co-Executive Producers David Fury and Jessie Alexander; Supervising Producer Javier Grillo-Marxuach; Producers Sarah Caplan and Leonard Dick; and series Producer Jean Higgins, have raised the standard of television production by giving viewers very entertaining stories of conflict, suspense, and humor; and

WHEREAS, the cast of "LOST" is a talented ensemble of principal actors, including Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje, Naveen Andrews, Emilie de Ravin, Matthew Fox, Jorge Garcia, Maggie Grace, Josh Holloway, Malcolm David Kelly, Daniel Dae Kim, Yunjin Kim, Evangeline Lilly, Dominic Monaghan, Terry O'Quinn, Harold Perrineau, Michelle Rodriguez, Ian Sommerhalder, and Cynthia Watros, who have developed a devoted fan base throughout the world; and

WHEREAS, through their individual and collective involvement in various local events, the cast and crew of "LOST" have demonstrated their commitment and caring of Hawaii's community, including efforts to raise funds for the victims of Hurricane Katrina; and

WHEREAS, "LOST" was nominated for twelve Emmy awards in its first season, and on September 18, 2005, at the 57th Annual Emmy Awards, won six, most notably as "Best Drama Series"-–the first for a show filmed in Hawaii-–and for "Outstanding Special Visual Effects for a Series," shared by kamaaina, Archie Ahuna; and

WHEREAS, "LOST" was nominated for three Golden Globe awards by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association and won the award for "Best Television Drama" on January 16, 2006; and

WHEREAS, "LOST" won the Actor award from the Screen Actors Guild for "Best Performance by an Ensemble in a Drama Series" on January 29, 2006; and

WHEREAS, "LOST" also won awards from the Producers Guild of America; Writers Guild of America; American Cinema Editors; Art Directors Guild; ASCAP Film and Television Music Awards; Prism Award; Academy of Science Fiction, Fantasy, and Horror Films, USA; BMI Film and Television Awards; Casting Society of America; International Horror Guild; Motion Picture Sound Editors, USA; Satellite Award; Television Critics Association Awards; Visual Effects Society Award; and Young Artist Award; and

WHEREAS, the cast and crew of "LOST" are committed to sharing their creative, unique, and brilliant talents to create an entertaining and successful television series that is loved by people around the world, especially in Hawaii; now, therefore,

BE IT RESOLVED by the House of Representatives of the Twenty-third Legislature of the State of Hawaii, Regular Session of 2006, that this body hereby congratulates and honors the cast and crew of ABC Television's drama series, "LOST" on its recent success in winning the 2006 Emmy, Golden Globe, and Screen Actors Guild Awards, in addition to numerous technical and critics awards, and extends its best wishes for continued success and good fortune in all future endeavors; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that certified copies of this Resolution be transmitted to series producer, Jean Higgins, and ABC Television Vice President, James Hedges.
