WHEREAS, participation in student athletic competition, a fundamental component of the physical, mental, and emotional development of our youth, instills the essence of perseverance, fellowship, and good sportsmanship into the character of Hawaii's future leaders; and

WHEREAS, the KAHUKU HIGH SCHOOL RED RAIDERS WRESTLING TEAM experienced an historic and exemplary season by winning the Chevron/Hawaii High School Athletic Association Wrestling Championship, and being the first-ever boys and girls teams from the same high school to simultaneously win the state championships in the sport of wrestling, bestowing great pride upon their entire school, including its students, faculty, and administration; and

WHEREAS, by bonding together to support and assist one another throughout the entire season, the KAHUKU HIGH SCHOOL RED RAIDERS WRESTLING TEAM, while competing against the very best wrestlers throughout the State of Hawaii, displayed the teamwork and united effort that epitomizes a true "Team" philosophy; and

WHEREAS, 7 girls and 11 boys qualified for the finals, including:

Girl Wrestling Team Finalists:

1. Mysia Kamakaala – State Title 130 lb. Weight division

2. Danica Auna - 2^nd place 108 lb. Weight division;

3. Amanda Soliai - 2^nd place 155 lb. Weight division;

4. Marlene Suckel - 2^nd place 175 lb. Weight division;

5. Kalae Johnson - 4^th place 103 lb. Weight division;

6. Erin Ahsue - 5^th place 140 lb. Weight division;

7. Chelsey Eugenio - 6^th place 114 lb. Weight division;

Boys Wrestling Team Finalists:

1. Richard Torres - 2^nd place 135 lb. Weight division;

2. Daniel Morita - 2^nd place 130 lb. Weight division;

3. Nevin Kamakaala - 2^nd place 145 lb. Weight division;

WHEREAS, other members of the KAHUKU HIGH SCHOOL RED RAIDERS WRESTLING TEAM who also participated in the tournament consist of Justin Abregano, Dillon Cadina, Helam Casey, Aaron Correa, Nathanial Hee, Joey Keliihomalu, Ryan Kelly, Jeremy Keys, Roman Pearl, David Westman, Neal Lokotui, Agrianna Aquino, Phoebe Arnett, Cianah Hee, Dawn Iseke, Ione Kamakaala, Amanda Keliihoomalu, Renee Rabaino, and Andrina Ramos, all helping to raise team points to championship status; and

WHEREAS, under the faithful guidance of Head Coach Reggie Torres and Assistant Coaches Warner Pukahi, Jeff Parker, and other parent volunteers, this outstanding wrestling team has gained immense athletic training and discipline, cultivated admirable sportsmanship, and enhanced their athletic abilities; now, therefore,

BE IT RESOLVED by the House of Representatives of the Twenty-third Legislature of the State of Hawaii, Regular Session of 2006, that this body hereby congratulates the coaches, managers, and team members of the KAHUKU HIGH SCHOOL RED RAIDERS WRESTLING TEAM in winning the Chevron/Hawaii High School Athletic Association championship title, and extends its warmest aloha and best wishes for continued success in all future endeavors.
