HOUSE RESOLUTION

 

requesting the department of accounting and general services to consider resurfacing the floors of the state capitol to address safety concerns.

 

 

WHEREAS, the State Capitol was built in 1967 and the original physical features that have not been replaced or refurbished are nearly forty years old and may pose a safety concern; and

WHEREAS, the common area concrete floor surfaces of the State Capitol could be considered unsafe under certain conditions, such as when the surfaces are wet or newly-buffed; and

WHEREAS, there have been instances and reports of people slipping and falling at the State Capitol due to loss of balance while walking on the common area floor surfaces; and

WHEREAS, the Legislature is concerned about the safety of people walking on the concrete floor surfaces of the chamber level and the first, second, third, and fourth floors of the State Capitol; now, therefore,

BE IT RESOLVED by the House of Representatives of the Twenty-third Legislature of the State of Hawaii, Regular Session of 2006, that the Department of Accounting and General Services is requested to consider resurfacing the concrete surfaces on the chamber level and the first, second, third, and fourth floors of the State Capitol to address safety concerns; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that certified copies of this Resolution be transmitted to the Governor and the Comptroller.
