HOUSE CONCURRENT

RESOLUTION

 

RECOGNIZING MARCH AS CAREGIVERS' MONTH IN HAWAII.

 

 

WHEREAS, our nation's democracy and freedom began with the statement that "We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty, and the pursuit of Happiness"; and

WHEREAS, as humans bound by temporal and physical limitations, our most basic common link is that we all inhabit this small planet, we all breathe the same air, we all cherish our children's futures, and we are all mortal; and

WHEREAS, the collective defense of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness often requires attentive effort by virtuous, self-sacrificing individuals committed to the preservation of humanity and their fellow man; and

WHEREAS, few of us are given the opportunity, and even fewer are given the courage, to sacrifice ourselves for the lives of others; and

WHEREAS, it is often only in times of frailty and weakness that the power of the bond which connects all humanity is clearly manifested; and

WHEREAS, caregivers commit themselves selflessly, wholeheartedly, and with great virtue to preserving the bond of humanity through administering care to those in need; and

WHEREAS, the actions of caregivers are exemplary of the highest values of our State, our nation, and the institution of democracy; and

WHEREAS, caregivers deserve to be recognized with full gratitude for their selfless actions that serve as rallying points to our society for reverently dictating what one ought to be, what one can be, and what one will be if taken to heart; and

WHEREAS, the life-changing, life-preserving actions of caregivers, who are heroes of the highest caliber, should never be ignored or forgotten; now, therefore,

BE IT RESOLVED by the House of Representatives of the Twenty-third Legislature of the State of Hawaii, Regular Session of 2006, the Senate concurring, that this body recognizes March as "Caregivers' Month" and supports the efforts of all caregivers who devote themselves to our life, liberty, and pursuit of happiness by the powerful service of caring for others; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that certified copies of this Concurrent Resolution be transmitted to the Governor, Director of Health, and Director of Human Services.
