HOUSE CONCURRENT

RESOLUTION

 

EXPRESSING APPRECIATION TO THE AIRLINES SERVING THE STATE OF HAWAII AND REQUESTING A PARTNERSHIP BETWEEN THE AIRLINES AND THE STATE TO PERPETUATE HAWAII'S NATURAL RESOURCES.

 

 

WHEREAS, Hawaii is blessed with stunning vistas, dramatic mountain ranges, pristine waters, verdant rainforests, and a climate that create our paradise in the Pacific; and

WHEREAS, because of Hawaii's natural beauty and the hospitality of its people, the visitor industry will account for over $12,000,000,000 in spending and approximately twenty-two per cent of all jobs in Hawaii; and

WHEREAS, the airline industry, as part of the partnerships that make up the visitor industry, transports over 7,000,000 visitors a year to Hawaii with hundreds of flights weekly; and

WHEREAS, included in the vision for Hawaii's tourism industry is the transition to a vital and sustainable tourism industry that:

(1) Honors Hawaii's people and heritage;

(2) Values and perpetuates Hawaii's natural and cultural resources;

(3) Engenders mutual respect among all stakeholders;

(4) Provides a unique, memorable, and enriching visitor experience; and

(5) Supports a vital and sustainable economy; and

WHEREAS, maintaining and improving of air transportation infrastructure and services for travel to and from Hawaii depends on the successful implementation of a vision for a sustainable tourism industry through the perpetuation and enhancement of Hawaii's natural, social, and cultural resources; and

WHEREAS, the airline industry can participate in achieving the goal of respecting, preserving, and enhancing Hawaii's natural, cultural, and social resources by distributing informational brochures or showing films and videos to inform visitors to Hawaii about what they can do to preserve Hawaii's natural resources, and to develop an understanding and respect for Hawaii's cultural and human assets; now, therefore,

BE IT RESOLVED by the House of Representatives of the Twenty-third Legislature of the State of Hawaii, Regular Session of 2006, the Senate concurring, that the Legislature expresses its deep appreciation to the airlines serving the State of Hawaii and their contribution to sustaining Hawaii's tourism industry, and requests the airlines to become partners in achieving the goal of developing respect among our visitors for Hawaii's natural, cultural, and social resources, and to encourage the preservation and enhancement of those resources by distributing informational brochures or showing films and videos to inform visitors to Hawaii about what they as tourists can do to preserve Hawaii's natural resources, and to develop an understanding and respect for Hawaii's cultural and human assets; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a certified copy of this Concurrent Resolution be transmitted to the Airline Committee of Hawaii.
