HOUSE CONCURRENT

RESOLUTION

 

REQUESTING THE SPEAKER OF THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES AND THE PRESIDENT OF THE SENATE TO CONVENE A JOINT LEGISLATIVE SUBCOMMITTEE TO ORGANIZE A HAWAII STATE PRAYER BREAKFAST.

 

 

WHEREAS, historically the leadership of our nation has turned to Almighty God for strength and guidance; and

WHEREAS, in this spirit the United States Senate and the House of Representatives breakfast groups, which meet to deepen friendships, to pray and counsel together, inaugurated the National Prayer Breakfast, under the leadership of President Dwight D. Eisenhower in 1953, to specifically seek the Lord's guidance and strength as well as to affirm our faith and to renew the dedication of our nation and ourselves to God and His purposes; and

WHEREAS, this event in the nations' capitol, which is organized privately by members of the United States Senate and House of Representatives, convenes annually to encourage men and women throughout the United States to recognize their privileges and responsibilities before God; and

WHEREAS, as a natural outgrowth of the gathering, for the past twenty-seven years, there has been a gathering of governmental, political, military, business, religious, and civic leaders of the State of Hawaii for fellowship and prayer in the spirit of the National Prayer Breakfast; and

WHEREAS, this Hawaii Prayer Breakfast has served to reaffirm that the people of Hawaii desire to deepen the spiritual life and moral fiber of our people through leadership led by God; and

WHEREAS, the Hawaii State Prayer Breakfast should include planning involvement from members of the state Senate and House of Representatives with no government funding; now, therefore,

BE IT RESOLVED by the House of Representatives of the Twenty-third Legislature of the State of Hawaii, Regular Session of 2006, the Senate concurring, that the Speaker of the House of Representatives and the President of the Senate are requested to convene annually a joint subcommittee of the Legislature to assist the Steering Committee of the Hawaii State Prayer Breakfast; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the joint legislative sub-committee is to consist of six members, provided that three members shall be appointed by the Speaker of the House of Representatives and the President of the Senate, respectively; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that certified copies of this Concurrent Resolution be transmitted to the Speaker of the House of Representatives, the President of the Senate, and the Steering Committee of the Hawaii Prayer Breakfast.
