Requires the Senate and the House of Representatives to establish a standing committee on ethics.

A BILL FOR AN ACT

SECTION 1. Chapter 84, Hawaii Revised Statutes, is amended by adding a new section to part V to be appropriately designated and to read as follows:

"§84- Legislature; standing committee on ethics. (a) Each house of the legislature shall establish a standing committee on ethics to consider and report on all bills, petitions, resolutions, budgets, and any other matters relating to this chapter that are referred to each standing committee on ethics.

(b) The standing committee on ethics of each house of the legislature shall be subject to the rules of that house."

SECTION 2. New statutory material is underscored.

SECTION 3. This Act shall take effect upon its approval; provided that the standing committee on ethics of each house of the legislature shall be initially appointed and convened during the regular session of 2006.
