A BILL FOR AN ACT

 

relating to kupuna recognition day.

 

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF HAWAII:

SECTION 1. Chapter 8, Hawaii Revised Statutes, is amended by adding a new section to be appropriately designated and to read as follows:

"§8- Kupuna Recognition Day. The fourth Saturday of July shall be known and designated as Kupuna Recognition Day, in recognition of the very significant role that kupuna play in Hawaii's culture, history, and traditions. This day is not and shall not be construed as a state holiday."

SECTION 2. There is appropriated out of the general revenues of the State of Hawaii the sum of $ , or so much thereof as may be necessary for fiscal year 2006-2007, to commemorate the establishment and observation of kupuna recognition day.

SECTION 3. The sum appropriated shall be expended by the department of accounting and general services for the purposes of this Act.

SECTION 4. New statutory material is underscored.

SECTION 5. This Act shall take effect upon its approval.
