Provides funding for public schools at classroom level.

A BILL FOR AN ACT

SECTION 1. There shall be created a new program identification number known as "EDN 700", into which moneys for the direct funding of public schools shall be allocated.

SECTION 2. There is appropriated out of the general revenues of the State of Hawaii the sum of

$54,000,000, or so much thereof as may be necessary for fiscal year 2006-2007, for funding of public schools under EDN 700.

SECTION 3. The sum appropriated shall be expended by the department of education for the purposes of this Act.

SECTION 4. The moneys in EDN 700 shall be distributed directly to every public school, including charter schools, at a rate of $300 per student, in a lump sum, for the school community council to use at their discretion.

SECTION 5. This Act shall take effect on July 1, 2006.
