A BILL FOR AN ACT

 

making an appropriation for the university of hawaii at hilo north hawaii education research center.

 

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF HAWAII:

SECTION 1. The North Hawaii education and research center will serve as a catalyst for the educational and informational needs of the North Hawaii region that includes an effective service area from Laupahoehoe to Waimea/Waikoloa. The North Hawaii education and research center will facilitate access to higher education and community outreach and provide a university presence in North Hawaii for community service and research. The North Hawaii education and research center will also facilitate student entry into higher education in an area undeserved by higher education. The North Hawaii education and research center is a unique and important piece in the economic recovery plan for the area and an idea derived by a series of community discussions in North Hawaii.

SECTION 2. There is appropriated out of the general revenues of the State of Hawaii the sum of $62,390, or so much thereof as may be necessary for fiscal year 2006-2007, for the University of Hawaii at Hilo North Hawaii Education Research Center as follows:

1. Other current expenses

Classroom tables (50); class room chairs (270); $25,590

Electricity 6,000

2. Equipment

Computers (24) $28,800

Printers (4) 2,000

Total $62,390

The sum appropriated shall be expended by the University of Hawaii at Hilo for the purposes of this Act.

SECTION 3. This Act shall take effect on July 1, 2006.
