HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES

H.B. NO.

3161

TWENTY-THIRD LEGISLATURE, 2006

STATE OF HAWAII

A BILL FOR AN ACT

MAKING AN APPROPRIATION TO THE UNIVERSITY OF HAWAII FOR CAMPUS SECURITY.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF HAWAII:

SECTION 1. The legislature finds that the University of Hawaii at Manoa is currently facing a campus security staffing shortage due to military leave. Since September 11, 2001, campus security measures have been implemented that have required a substantial amount of time, money, and resources. In order to ensure the safety of faculty, staff, students, and other members of the university community, it is critical that more campus security officers are hired to continue these services on campus to prevent and deter criminal activity.

The purpose of this Act is to appropriate funds to hire sixteen campus security officers for the University of Hawaii at Manoa campus.

SECTION 2. There is appropriated out of the general revenues of the State of Hawaii the sum of $480,000, or so much thereof as may be necessary for fiscal year 2006-2007, for sixteen campus security officer I positions (SR-14) for the University of Hawaii at Manoa.

SECTION 3. The sum appropriated shall be expended by the University of Hawaii for the purposes of this Act.

SECTION 4. This Act shall take effect on July 1, 2006.
