A BILL FOR AN ACT

 

MAKING AN APPROPRIATION TO THE DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION TO pay the state's share of expenses in A PARTNERSHIP WITH A PRIVATE OR NONSECTARIAN EDUCATIONAL ORGANIZATION TO START EARLY CHILDHOOD EDUCATION PROGRAMS IN COMMUNITIES IN NEED.

 

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF HAWAII:

SECTION 1. There is appropriated out of the general revenues of the State of Hawaii the sum of $55,000,000, or so much thereof as may be necessary for fiscal year 2006-2007, for the department of education to pay the State's share of expenses in a partnership with a private organization that qualifies as a section 501(c)(3) organization under the Internal Revenue Code of 1986, as amended, or a nonsectarian organization, to start early childhood education programs (for children aged two to the third grade) in communities in need.

SECTION 2. The sum appropriated shall be expended by the department of education for the purposes of this Act.

SECTION 3. This Act shall take effect on July 1, 2006.
