A BILL FOR AN ACT
relating to the legislature.
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF HAWAII:
SECTION 1. Chapter 17, Hawaii Revised Statutes, is amended by adding a new section to be appropriately designated and to read as follows:
"§17- Qualifications for vacancy. For purposes of sections 17-3 and 17-4, the appointee shall be a person who, at the time of the last election, was:
(1) A resident of the district; and
(2) A member of the same political party or nonpartisan as the person the appointee succeeds."
SECTION 2. New statutory material is underscored.
SECTION 3. This Act shall take effect upon its approval.
