A BILL FOR AN ACT

 

relating to public employees.

 

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF HAWAII:

SECTION 1. The Hawaii Revised Statutes is amended by adding a new chapter to Title 7 to be appropriately designated and to read as follows:

"Chapter

ALTERNATIVE WORK SCHEDULES FOR STATE EMPLOYEES

§ -1 Alternative work schedules for public employees; state policy. It shall be the policy of the State to encourage alternative work schedules for public employees; provided that an alternative work schedule does not;

(1) Result in the closing of a state office or agency during the normal office hours of the state office or agency;

(2) Result in the involuntary loss of a public employee's working hours;

(3) Result in increased personnel costs; or

(4) Violate federal law."

SECTION 2. This Act shall take effect upon its approval.
