A BILL FOR AN ACT

 

relating to cultural impact study.

 

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF HAWAII:

SECTION 1. Chapter 6E, Hawaii Revised Statutes, is amended by adding a new section to be appropriately designated and to read as follows:

"§6E-   Comprehensive cultural impact study. The state historic preservation division may require the conduct of a comprehensive cultural impact study whenever a land development is proposed in the State. The cultural impact study shall carry out the mission of this chapter to recognize, conserve, and develop the historic and cultural heritage of the State as an important asset for the enrichment of all of the State's residents."

SECTION 2. New statutory material is underscored.

SECTION 3. This Act shall not apply to any development of land initiated prior to its effective date.

SECTION 4. This Act shall take effect upon its approval.
