A BILL FOR AN ACT

 

relating to health care.

 

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF HAWAII:

SECTION 1. (a) The state health planning and development agency shall compile, publish, and distribute a health care map to all health providers and health-related government agencies in the State. The guide map shall consist of geographic maps against which are cross-referenced:

(1) The type and location of each health care provider in the State, including physicians, mid-level providers, nurse practitioners, psychologists, community health centers, mental health clinics, and trauma/acute care centers, and nurses;

(2) A description of each health care provider's services, and the scope of their practices;

(3) The type of medical insurance coverage each provider accepts including QUEST, medicare, and medicaid;

(4) What languages are spoken and whether interpreters are available; and

(5) The telephone number and address of each health care provider's office of place of work.

(b) No later than March 31, 2007, the state health planning and development agency shall publish the health care map and begin distributing copies to the appropriate state affiliated health agencies and branches of government at no expense.

SECTION 2. There is appropriated out of the general revenues of the State of Hawaii the sum of $750,000, or so much thereof as may be necessary for fiscal year 2006-2007, for compiling, publishing, and distributing a health care map to all health care providers in the State pursuant to this Act.

The sum appropriated shall be expended by the state health planning and development agency for the purposes of this Act.

SECTION 3. This Act shall take effect upon its approval, except that section 2 shall take effect on July 1, 2006.
