A BILL FOR AN ACT

 

relating to correctional facilities.

 

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF HAWAII:

SECTION 1. The auditor is directed to retain the services of a consultant to review all correctional facilities under the jurisdiction of the department of public safety's corrections division to determine the costs of upgrading the facilities' surveillance systems to ensure public safety.

SECTION 2. There is appropriated out of the general revenues of the State of Hawaii the sum of $           or so much thereof as may be necessary for fiscal year 2006-2007 for a consultant to review the surveillance systems in all correctional facilities under the jurisdiction of the department of public safety's corrections division to determine the costs of upgrading the facilities' surveillance systems.

The sum appropriated shall be expended by the auditor for the purposes of this Act.

SECTION 3. This Act shall take effect on July 1, 2006.
