Directs auditor to retain consultant to review correctional facilities to determine cost of upgrading surveillance systems.

A BILL FOR AN ACT

SECTION 1. The auditor is directed to retain the services of a consultant to review all detention facilities under the jurisdiction of the department of public safety's corrections division to determine the costs of upgrading the facilities' surveillance systems to ensure the public safety.

SECTION 2. There is appropriated out of the general revenues of the State of Hawaii the sum of $          , or so much thereof as may be necessary for fiscal year 2006-2007, for a consultant to review the surveillance systems in all detention facilities under the jurisdiction of the department of public safety's correctional division to determine the costs of upgrading the facilities' surveillance systems.

SECTION 3. The sum appropriated shall be expended by the auditor for the purposes of this Act.

SECTION 4. This Act shall take effect on July 1, 2006.
