A BILL FOR AN ACT

 

RELATING TO EDUCATION.

 

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF HAWAII:

SECTION 1. The legislature finds that public school students attending Oahu schools have greatly benefited from the Hoa Aina O Makaha cultural learning center, where students participate in a variety of educational, cultural, and after-school programs. The center serves as a classroom without walls and has been visited by four thousand students from the Leeward coast and throughout Oahu. Five thousand students are scheduled to visit the cultural learning center in 2006.

The purpose of this Act is to provide funds for a teacher position at the Hoa Aina O Makaha cultural learning center so that the organization can continue to provide programs to public school students.

SECTION 2. There is appropriated out of the general revenues of the State of Hawaii the sum of $          , or so much thereof as may be necessary for fiscal year 2006-2007, for the purpose of funding a teacher position at Hoa Aina O Makaha cultural learning center.

SECTION 3. The sum appropriated shall be expended by the department of education for the purposes of this Act.

SECTION 4. This Act shall take effect on July 1, 2006.
