A BILL FOR AN ACT

 

making an appropriation for full-time student activity coordinators for intermediate schools.

 

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF HAWAII:

SECTION 1. The legislature finds that when Hawaii invests in the education of its children, Hawaii invests in the future of the community and its future adult citizens. In addition to classroom learning, participation in after school activities is an important part of students' learning and development into well-rounded, mature adults.

The purpose of this Act is to ensure that there are organized activities for students to enhance their learning outside of the classroom by providing funding for full-time student activity coordinators for all public intermediate schools, except for charter schools.

SECTION 2. There is appropriated out of the general revenues of the State of Hawaii the sum of $ , or so much thereof as may be necessary for fiscal year 2005-2006, and the same sum, or so much thereof as may be necessary for fiscal year 2006-2007, for student activities coordinators in all public intermediate schools, except for new century charter schools.

SECTION 3. The sums appropriated shall be expended by the department of education for the purposes of this Act.

SECTION 4. This Act shall take effect on July 1, 2005.
