A BILL FOR AN ACT

 

relating to capital improvement projects for the benefit of the thirty-fifth representative district.

 

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF HAWAII:

SECTION 1. The following sums, or so much thereof as shall be sufficient to finance the projects listed in this Act, are hereby appropriated out of the general revenues of the State of Hawaii for fiscal year 2005-2006:

1. August Ahrens elementary school, Oahu

Plans, design, and construction for a new eight classroom and administration building to move students from the twenty-seven portables that are over thirty-five years old and to efficiently meet the needs of the school size and population. Includes drainage system to efficiently collect and drain surface flows from the general area of the school.

2. Waipahu elementary school, Oahu

Study and repair of the existing retaining wall on Waipahu Street to repair a safety hazard.

Study and repair $   70,000

Total Funding $   70,000

3. Waipahu elementary school, Oahu

Electrical upgrades in one building, the library, and the administration building with advanced technology to support increased enrollment.

Upgrades $1,000,000

Total Funding $1,000,000

4. Waipahu elementary school, Oahu

Air conditioning for one building, ten portable classrooms, buildings D, E, and F, and the administration building to eliminate the problem of dust and heat, which make it difficult for students to learn.

Installation $2,000,000

Total Funding $2,000,000

5. Waipahu elementary school, Oahu

Installation of additional lighting in the courtyard to ensure safety during nighttime activities.

Lighting $   20,000

Total Funding $   20,000

SECTION 2. The sums appropriated for the respective capital projects set forth in section 1 shall be expended by the department of accounting and general services for the purposes of this Act.

SECTION 3. This Act shall take effect on July 1, 2005.
