RELATING TO PUBLIC SCHOOL NUTRITION.

Establishes public school nutrition standards and food service manager nutrition training requirements. Requires the department of education to encourage schools to provide culturally appropriate nutrition education and farm-to-table education programs.

RELATING TO EDUCATION.

Appropriates funds for community-based youth leadership development camps on all islands in the State. Appoints the state student council to oversee the planning, implementation, and evaluation of these camps.

RELATING TO EDUCATION.

Establishes a grant program in the department of education to develop K-12 lesson plans, curriculum, and other educational materials for civic responsibility. Appropriates funds to DOE for social studies textbooks to support civic responsibility, science textbooks, and to the grant program.

RELATING TO THE BOARD OF EDUCATION.

Establishes salaries for the members of the board of education. Establishes a board of education salary commission to periodically review and recommend adjustments to board members' salaries.

RELATING TO SCHOOLS.

Requires the department of education to conduct asbestos tests prior to renovations or painting of school facilities at King intermediate. Appropriates funds for asbestos testing of King intermediate school students.

RELATING TO TEACHER LICENSING.

Allows an individual with a post-graduate degree in a field other than education to receive a teacher's license, after taking an approved semester-long course in education and passing a course examination.

RELATING TO STUDENTS.

Authorizes DOE to permit its employees and agents to administer medication, excluding insulin, to diabetic students in an emergency; establishes that DOE is not liable for any injury from self-administered or emergency administered medication of students.
