The purpose of this briefing is to review actions being undertaken by the State’s Housing Agency, HCDCH, in meeting the benchmarks set forth in the memorandum of agreement with the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD). Recent visits to public housing by the Senate Affordable Housing Task force, as well as reports published in local news media, raise issues related to HCDCH’s implementation of remedial measures to expeditiously address the deep and widespread problems identified and documented in the state’s public housing system.
This briefing marks a continuation of the Commerce, Consumer Protection, and Housing Committee’s oversight of the management and operations of HCDCH begun in the 2002 Session of the Twenty-Second Legislature, which was undertaken to correct deficiencies in the agency and restore efficiency in the delivery of much-needed public housing to Hawaii residents.
The CPH Committee will receive input at the briefing from the HCDCH, other government agencies, public housing advocates, and interested members of the public. Those submitting written testimony should provide 20 copies to the committee clerk at least 24 hours prior to the briefing.
If you require special assistance or auxiliary aids or services to participate in the public hearing process (i.e., sign language interpreter, wheelchair accessibility, or parking designated for the disabled) please contact the committee clerk 24 hours prior to the hearing so arrangements can be made.
FOR FURTHER INFORMATION, PLEASE CALL THE COMMITTEE CLERK AT 586-6740.
