STAND. COM. REP. NO. 1826

Honolulu, Hawaii

, 2005

RE: GOV. MSG. NO. 790

Honorable Robert Bunda

President of the Senate

Twenty-Third State Legislature

Regular Session of 2005

State of Hawaii

Sir:

Your Committee on Energy, Environment, and International Affairs, to which was referred Governor's Message No. 790, submitting for study and consideration the nomination of:

Board of Certification of Public Water System Operators

G.M. No. 790

JEFFREY T. PEARSON,

for a term to expire 06-30-2009,

begs leave to report as follows:

Testimony in support of JEFFREY T. PEARSON was received from the Department of Health. The nominee submitted a written statement and was present before your Committee.

Your Committee finds that the nominee received his bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Minnesota and is licensed as a professional engineer (P.E.). From 1989 to 2002, the nominee worked in the private sector as a design engineer on various water and wastewater projects on Maui. Since 2003, the nominee has been the Deputy Director for the Department of Water Supply for the County of Maui, and in that position he has supervised the work of water treatment plan operators and distribution systems operators for the Maui County public water systems. Your Committee notes that the nominee will be returning to the private sector in May, 2005, but that the nominee desires to remain involved in public water system safety through active participation in the Board of Certification of Public Water System Operators.

As affirmed by the record of votes of the members of your Committee on Energy, Environment, and International Affairs that is attached to this report, your Committee, after full consideration of the background, experience, and qualifications of the nominee, has found the nominee to be qualified for the position to which nominated and recommends that the Senate advise and consent to the nomination.

Respectfully submitted on behalf of the members of the Committee on Energy, Environment, and International Affairs,
