HONORING THE KING KAMEHAMEHA CELEBRATION COMMISSION AND ITS COMMISSIONERS, STAFF, AND VOLUNTEERS FOR THEIR ENDURING CONTRIBUTION TO THE CULTURAL LIFE OF THE STATE OF HAWAII.
WHEREAS, the King Kamehameha Celebration Commission has, since its establishment by the Territorial Legislature in 1939, coordinated celebration events throughout the state to honor the life and accomplishments of one of Hawaii’s greatest heroes, Kamehameha the Great; and
WHEREAS, these events, including the Kamehameha Day Floral parade in Honolulu, have provided cultural and educational experiences for residents and visitors alike, as well as opportunities for national and international viewers to enjoy and appreciate the culture of Hawaii through television broadcasts of the parade; and
WHEREAS, each year, with selfless work and dedication, the King Kamehameha Celebration Commission manages over 100,000 volunteers as well as the holiday's generous corporate supporters; now, therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED by the House of Representatives of the Twenty-third Legislature of the State of Hawaii, Regular Session of 2005, that this body hereby recognizes and honors the King Kamehameha Celebration Commission and its commissioners, staff, and volunteers for their enduring contribution to the cultural life of the State of Hawaii, and extends to them its best wishes for continued success in delighting residents and visitors alike at the annual Kamehameha Day festivities.
