WHEREAS, the Milken Family Foundation National Educator Awards provide recognition to only the most outstanding educators who strive to provide crucial support to students in the classroom and excel at the challenge and adventure of teaching; and

WHEREAS, the 2004-2005 awards are given to teachers who have raised the bar of excellence for their students and have closely guided them to attain the goals that have been set; and

WHEREAS, KATHERINE NAKAMURA has been chosen for the 2004-2005 Milken Family Foundation National Educator Award and with it, the recognition and prestige that such an award brings; and

WHEREAS, KATHERINE NAKAMURA has bonded closely with each of her students and helps them achieve their dreams both inside and outside the classroom, through her sense of humor, patience, dedication, experience, talent, and passion; and

WHEREAS, generations of students will benefit from KATHERINE NAKAMURA's instruction and grow into self-confident young adults with a thirst for knowledge and respect for each other and themselves; and

WHEREAS, KATHERINE NAKAMURA has been lauded by colleagues for her hard work and skill in bringing innovative techniques to the classroom, making her a natural leader and outstanding role model to students and peers alike; and

WHEREAS, the author of a published children's book, KATHERINE NAKAMURA has used her writing talent and creativity to instill a love of learning and sense of accomplishment to students in the fourth grade and all grades at Moanalua Elementary School; and

WHEREAS, KATHERINE NAKAMURA has earned the Milken Family Foundation National Educator award with her love and devotion to educating the next generation; now, therefore,

BE IT RESOLVED by the House of Representatives of the Twenty-third Legislature of the State of Hawaii, Regular Session of 2005, that this body hereby expresses its deepest gratitude to KATHERINE NAKAMURA for reaching out to the students of Moanalua Elementary School and touching the hearts of the people of Hawaii, and extends to her its heartfelt congratulations, aloha, and best wishes for continued success in her professional and personal life.
