Requires the appointment of judicial selection commission members from a neighbor island to be conducted on a rotating basis; requires member biographies to be made available to the public; and prohibits members from having a direct interest in the success or failure of ballot questions or political candidates when appointed, or actively support or oppose a political candidate or ballot question while serving as a member of the commission. |

RELATING TO PRETRIAL DETAINEES. Establishes statutory deadlines for the mental examination of pretrial criminal defendants. Requires the judiciary to report to the 2005 legislature on the administration of forensic examinations and detail the number of days that pass between the order for mental evaluation and the court's ruling. |

Testimony may also be faxed if less than 5 pages in length, to the Senate Sergeant-At-Arms Office at 586-6659 or 1-800-586-6659 (toll free for neighbor islands), at least 24 hours prior to the hearing. When faxing, please indicate to whom the testimony is being submitted, the date and time of the hearing, and the required number of copies needed for submittal. At the Chair's discretion, the time allowed for individual oral testimony may be limited.
If you require special assistance or auxiliary aids or services to participate in the public hearing process (i.e., sign language interpreter, wheelchair accessibility, or parking designated for the disabled) please contact the committee clerk 24 hours prior to the hearing so arrangements can be made.
