The purpose of the informational briefing is to review and discuss a proposal developed in consultation with Citizens Against Gasoline Price Gouging for revisions to Act 77, SLH 2002, which sets price caps statewide for unleaded gasoline. The individuals who make up Citizens Against Gasoline Price Gouging have well-established credentials in the Hawaii petroleum industry, as well as in the area of consumer protection. They have conducted extensive research and have been working with key legislators to develop a proposal for gas price caps that significantly enhances the act. Legislation incorporating the proposed amendments to Act 77 will be introduced during the 2004 legislative session.
As this is an informational briefing, the Committee will not be receiving public testimony.
