A BILL FOR AN ACT

 

MAKING AN APPROPRIATION FOR TEXTBOOKS FOR PUBLIC SCHOOLS.

 

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF HAWAII:

SECTION 1. There is appropriated out of the general revenues of the State of Hawaii the sum of $1,800,000, or so much thereof as may be necessary for fiscal year 2004-2005, for the department of education to purchase more new and recently published textbooks in order to update the textbooks periodically and to provide a sufficient number of textbooks for every student enrolled in the public schools, provided that an individual school's textbooks and curriculum shall be aligned with that of the school complex as a whole.

SECTION 2. The sum appropriated shall be expended by the department of education for the purposes of this Act.

SECTION 3. This Act shall take effect on July 1, 2004.
