A BILL FOR AN ACT

 

relating to capital improvements for the University of hawaii.

 

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF HAWAII:

SECTION 1. The following sums, or so much thereof as shall be sufficient to finance the projects listed in this Act, are hereby appropriated out of the general revenues of the State of Hawaii for fiscal year 2004-2005:

1. Komohana research and outreach center, Hilo, Hawaii

Design, construction, and equipment to transform space at the Komohana agricultural complex into state-of-the-art laboratories, laboratory support spaces, conference rooms, classrooms, and offices.

Construction 11,871,000

Equipment 1,167,000

Total funding $14,573,000

2. Waimanalo research and outreach center, Waimanalo, Oahu

Plans for the development of a research and outreach center at the Waimanalo research station and on the adjacent site of the former Meadow Gold Dairies Waimanalo Dairy.

Plans $ 330,000

Total funding $ 330,000

3. Urban garden center, Pearl City, Oahu

Design, construction, and equipment for the expansion of facilities, including the construction of a multi-purpose building at the urban garden center.

Design $ 350,000

Construction 4,115,000

Total funding $4,720,000

4. Molokai cooperative extension office, Hoolehua, Molokai

Design, construction, and equipment for a new office building for the Molokai cooperative extension office.

Design $ 70,000

5. Ellison Onizuka cooperative extension office, Kealakekua, Hawaii

Construction of a new Kona extension office building at the University of Hawaii center at west Hawaii.

Construction $1,726,000

6. University of Manoa campus plant growth facility, Honolulu, Oahu

Design, construction, and equipment for four controlled-environment plant growth chambers for genetically modified plants and a workroom for biotechnology research.

Design $ 80,000

Construction 939,000

Equipment 109,000

Total funding $1,128,000

SECTION 2. The sums appropriated for the respective capital projects set forth in section 1 shall be expended by the University of Hawaii college of tropical agriculture and human resources for the purposes of this Act.

SECTION 3. This Act shall take effect on July 1, 2004.
