On January 20, 2003 the Department of Education (DOE) provided the House Finance Committee with information regarding budget priorities for the upcoming biennium. During the briefing it was noted that the DOE would be subject to budget cuts proposed by the Governor for the current fiscal year and into the next biennium. Recent communication between the Department of Education and the Department of Budget and Finance indicate differences with respect to the details of budget cuts proposed. The Board of Education, at it's February 6, 2003 meeting addressed some of these issues.

The Superintendent of Education has been invited, and will provide the Committee with an update on the impacts of the $25 million budget cut to the Department of Education.
