The purpose of this informational briefing is to hear from experts on the status of the state of Hawai`i's marine resources. These experts will discuss the benefits of marine reserves for the state of Hawai`i. The list of experts include:
Denise Antolini, Assistant Professor of Law, William S. Richardson School of Law, will moderate the briefing. Athline Clark, Division of Aquatic Resources, Department of Land and Natural Resources, will outline the division's existing program of marine managed areas. Sara Peck from the University of Hawai`i will discuss the West Hawai`i marine management regime. Dr. William Walsh form the Division of Aquatic Resources and Dr. Carl Meyer from the University of Hawai`i will talk about the science of marine reserves. Wayde Lee of Alu Like, will give an example of a community-based marine managed area.
