RELATING TO DRIVERS EDUCATION.

Requires the legislature to include the drivers education program of the DOE as a separate line item in its General and Supplemental Appropriations Acts for executive branch agencies. Appropriates funds to provide each high school with 1.00 FTE drivers education instructor position for every 750 students.

RELATING TO TEMPORARY PUBLIC SCHOOL FACILITIES.

Exempts temporary public school facilities, such as trailers and portable classrooms, including nonpublic facilities, such as storerooms and offices, from state or county laws if those laws that exceed federal ADA requirements.

RELATING TO HURRICANE SHELTERS.

Allows the State and counties to designate buildings that shall comply with criteria for hurricane-resistant shelters.

RELATING TO THE MANAGEMENT OF DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION FACILITIES.

Establishes a school support division and a general support division within the DAGS. Transfers all school-related functions within the central services division and the public works division to the school support division and consolidates remaining functions within the general support division. Requires determination of the feasibility of further consolidation of facilities management functions.

RELATING TO THE MANAGEMENT OF SCHOOL FACILITIES.

Establishes 15.00 FTE complex area facility manager positions by converting 8 existing business and fiscal officer positions into complex area facility manager positions, and creating 7 new complex area facility manager positions. Converts 42.00 business assistant positions from temporary to permanent status.

Testimony may also be faxed if less than 5 pages in length, to the Senate Sergeant-At-Arms Office at 586-6659 or 1-800-586-6659 (toll free for neighbor islands), at least 24 hours prior to the hearing. When faxing, please indicate to whom the testimony is being submitted, the date and time of the hearing, and the required number of copies needed for submittal.
