RELATING TO MEDICAL EDUCATION. Establishes the Hawaii Medical Education Council to coordinate and govern graduate medical education in the State. |

RELATING TO A CENTER FOR NURSING. Establishes a center for nursing at the University of Hawaii, governed by board of directors. Requires center to conduct research on staffing needs for nurses and other assistive healthcare personnel. Requires 10% of all revenues collected by board of nursing to be deposited into center for nursing special fund. |

RELATING TO NURSING EDUCATION. Establishes a nursing education loan program to provide loans for eligible nursing students in an amount of up to $10,000 per student per academic year. Provides for loan repayment or partial or complete loan forgiveness for eligible individuals who satisfy the work requirement. Appropriates funds to provide loans to nursing candidates. |

DECISION MAKING TO FOLLOW, IF TIME PERMITS.
Persons wishing to testify should submit 45 copies of their testimony to the committee clerk, Room 213, State Capitol during regular business hours, or outside the Senate Sergeant-at-Arms Office, Room 015, State Capitol for all other times, 24 hours prior to the hearing. Testimony may also be faxed if less than 5 pages in length, to the Senate Sergeant-At-Arms Office at 586-6659 or 1-800-586-6659 (toll free for neighbor islands), at least 24 hours prior to the hearing. When faxing, please indicate to whom the testimony is being submitted, the date and time of the hearing, and the required number of copies needed for submittal.
If you require special assistance or auxiliary aids or services to participate in the public hearing process (i.e., sign language interpreter, wheelchair accessibility, or parking designated for the disabled) please contact the committee clerk 24 hours prior to the hearing so arrangements can be made.
