RESOLUTION
requesting the STADIUM AUTHORITY TO DESIGNATE the lower halawa parking lot at aloha stadium AS THE STATE FAIRGROUNDS.
WHEREAS, the lower Halawa parking lot at Aloha Stadium is used for numerous fundraising endeavors, including the Sports Carnival, 50th State Fair, and the Hawaii State Farm Fair; and
WHEREAS, the lower Halawa parking lot is used for fundraising purposes for thirty days each year, which generate over $400,000 annually for Hawaii's nonprofit organizations; and
WHEREAS, other states, including California and Washington, have designated permanent fairgrounds and infrastructure that contribute significantly to increased use and more successful events; and
WHEREAS, the designation of the lower Halawa parking lot at Aloha Stadium as the state fairgrounds may facilitate greater use of Aloha Stadium grounds and generate more funding for Hawaii's nonprofit organizations; now, therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED by the Senate of the Twenty-second Legislature of the State of Hawaii, Regular Session of 2003, the House of Representatives concurring, that the Stadium Authority is requested to designate the lower Halawa parking lot of Aloha Stadium as the state fairgrounds; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that certified copies of this Concurrent Resolution be transmitted to the Chair of the Stadium Authority and the Stadium Manager.
